Read the following excerpt from Sandra Cisneros’s story "Mericans." They’re not from here. Ladies don’t come to church dressed in pants. And everybody knows men aren’t supposed to wear shorts. Which of the following statements best explains the irony expressed in this excerpt?

Even without the choices to the question, the irony found in that excerpt is evident. In the story "Mericans", a young girl is narrating the events about how she is trapped between her old heritage and the new world (Mexico and America, respectively).

The irony would be that the narrator is not from there either. We know this since the girl and her brother is not allowed to enter the church too.

D-The narrator judges the inappropriate attire of the Americans while her own behavior is inappropriate as well.
