In the title of the story "Babylon Revisited" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Babylon is a metaphor for D.) THE STALE AND LIFELESS CITY THAT PARIS HAS BECOME FOR CHARLIE.

The story portrayed Charlie's past, where he lived a life of wealth and excesses in Paris. He became a drunkard who enjoyed a rich life. But when the market crashed in 1929, he was one of those greatly affected. He lost his fortune, his wife died, and his child lived with his in-laws.

The Babylon he once knew was no longer. Charlie was sober and was able to become wealthy again. But all the joys he found in the past no longer bring him happiness. All he wanted was to have his daughter live with him again.
