Green and red lights are referred to as sidelights or combination lights. These lights mean that the boat has the right of way. The lights are usually visible when the boat is approaching another head on. The red light shows the boat;s left side with green indicating the right side.

A red and green light on another boat are called sidelights and it is one of the common navigation lights.  

when boat operator see the red light, it means they must slow down or maneuver to prevent collision while the green light means the boat operator should maintain course and speed.

Sidelights: the red and green lights are called sidelights and it is also referred to as combination light. In a vessel, the red light shows the vessel port (left) side while the green indicates the vessel starboard side, which is the right side.

Sternlights: this light is white and it can be seen from behind or close to the boat.

Masthead: this is white light. it shines forward and towards both side of a boat. It is located on the mast of sailboat. this white light is also required on all motorboats. All boat under engine power in the night must display their masthead.

All round white light: this is a combination of masthead light and sternlight to form a single white light so that boat coming from other direction can see the white light.  This white light serves as anchor light in the case where sidelight are extinguished.
