In the "Young Goodman Brown", Brown believed he had dreams to be fulfilled, and thought he could not achieve them with his wife. He finally decided to leave his wife and village. His decision latter changed him to a distrustful and miserable cynic because during his voyage in a forest, he met the devil who only facilitated Goodman Brown's fall.
"A Journey" describe life as a journey filled with lessons, and various challenges that would lead individual to his/ her purpose in life. The wife was unconfortable with her husband's illness and indulges in the thought of being free after his death. She woke up to find her husband dead (who had a severe chronic illness) beside her, and decided to keep his death hidden until they reached New York.
The similarity between the two charactes is that both struggle to distinguish dreams from reality.
