The Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB, Bráithreachas na Poblachta in Gaelic) was an Irish secret organization whose ultimate goal was to establish in Ireland "an independent and democratic Republic". The IRB played a decisive role in the armed struggle for the independence of Ireland in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
