The correct answer to the question is induction or polarization.

EXPLANATION:

There are three ways through which we can produce charge on a body. The three processes are known as friction, conduction and induction.

During the charging through friction, we rub one substance with another so that there will be actual transfer of electrons from low affinity substance to high affinity substance. Hence, the process is carried out by actual contact between two substances.

Conduction is the process in which two bodies are connected through a wire and charge flows from one body to another body .

Induction or polarization is the process of charging the substances in which there will be no actual contact between them. It can be understood by an example.

Let us consider a positively charged rod is taken towards an uncharged metallic sphere. The electrons will flow towards the end of the sphere which is closer to the rod. The far end part of the sphere will gain positive charge.

Let the positive side of the sphere is earthed. Hence, the electron will flow from earth to sphere and cancels the positive charge. Now the earthing is disconnected and the rod is taken away . It will be observed that net amount of negative charge is contained by the sphere.

Hence, the acquisition of electric charge without direct contact between charged and/ or uncharged substances is called induction or polarization.
