The latifundia are considered as an extensive part of privately owned lands and are specialized in the agricultural exports of the olive, grapes, and wine and during the colonial period, the Europeans often used industrialization agriculture along with the dependence on economic slavery.
Latifundia started to grow as economic consolidation as the larger estates attained greater economies of scale and senators did not pay takes and land revenues and thus small farms had lower productivity and could not compete.
