1. First: Tool Revolution. This period makes reference to the Neolithic Age where human beings used stone tools for building permanent settlements, for cultivating plants, for breeding animals, etc. It involves the prehistoric transition from hunting and gathering to settled agriculture.
2. Second: Agricultural Revolution. It was a period of technological improvement which increased crop productivity which developed during the 18th and early 19th centuries in Europe. New agricultural inventions allowed a shift from the techniques of the past to the modern ones.
3. Third: Industrial Revolution. It took place from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period where predominantly agrarian and rural societies turned into industrial and urban ones. Industrialization marked a shift from manufactured to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The development of the steam engine as well as the improvement of transportation systems, communication and banking played central roles during this period.
4. Fourth: Technological Revolution. It is a period of accelerated technological progress in which new technological innovations replace another in a short span of time. This rapid application and diffusion causes a sudden change in society.
