Tympanic membrane proliferation occurs for many causes. It depends on the size and whole f the eardrum. If proliferation occurs it creates a conducive hearing impairment in a person or a child. Due to this the middle ear does not get wet or liquid form. But if water enters the middle ear it creates a middle ear infection.
Thus eardrum plays a vital role in hearing and impairment in the ear.
