The French Ancien Regime, also known as the French estate system, was a three- estate system used until the French Revolution.Monarchy was for the king and queen, The First estate was made up of the clergy; Second estate was made up of the nobles; Third was peasants and bourgeoisie. By 1614, the Third estate made up 98 % of the population. During the lead up to the meeting on May 5 the Third estate began to prepare and organize (troops) for active service for equal rights and the abolishment for noble veto. Due to the Tennis Court Oath, the Third estate adopted the title of "National Assembly" and many clerical deputies and 47 liberal nobles joined them. The National Assembly lead to the rioters that stormed the Bastille fortress in order to get a hold of gunpowder and other supplies. This was the start of the French Revolution.
