Black Americans did not like the Democratic Party for its racist and exclusion policies in the South, but in 1936 FDR got more black votes than usual for a Democrat; many African Americans were enticed by his social policies and benefits.  A former FDR ally had plans to run for the presidency, Republicans thought he can take votes from the Democrats, but that person died before November 1936.
