3. Don't buy an encaustic painting painted on just canvas by itself.The best way to use non-primmed canvas is to embed it onto a solid board first. New materials are being developed all the time like absorbent gesso made for encaustic. Don't use straight acrylic gesso, acrylic is not absorbent.
4. Materials Needed to Start an Encaustic Painting
- The medium. Medium used for encaustics is made from beeswax and damar resin crystals.
- Oil paint (if you are adding color yourself)
- Brushes.
- Palette.
- Metal bowls & tins.
- Fusing tools.
- Scraping tools & collage elements.
5. Encaustic painting created properly will mostly take care of itself. Never have any painting in or around extreme heat or cold for that fact. Obviously extreme heat, anything over 200 degrees Fahrenheit or 90 degrees Celsius may melt encaustic wax medium. Encaustic painting do perfectly fine in your home or office.
