To travel to space, you need more than just the clothes on your back! Astronauts put on spacesuits that act like mini-spacecraft to protect them. For example, they monitor temperature, provide oxygen, hold water to drink, protect their eyes, and shield them from space dust. To do this, spacesuits have many different parts. One part covers the astronaut's chest, another part covers the arms, gloves cover the hands, the helmet protects the head, and the last part covers their legs and feet. Each layer is complex and has a different purpose. The suits consist of many layers for astronauts to brave the elements of space and explore safely.
