The song, “Mrs. Potato Head” by Melanie Martinez talks about plastic surgery, insisting that even if pretty does hurt, it’s probably not worth it to start cutting and pasting because one may regret trying to make themselves into something they are not. This is Melanie’s favorite song from her debut album Cry Baby. The music video is centered around a woman who gets numerous cosmetic surgeries to impress her partner, who in the end, gets with another woman because the main character is now uglier with cosmetic surgery than with her natural beauty. The main point is that you don’t need to be perfect to be beautiful. Everyone is perfect in their own way. Melanie does not mean to bash people who have gotten cosmetic and/or plastic surgery by this song. Also I am a huge fan of Melanie and her songs all have such a significant meaning. If you don’t already listen to her music, I highly recommend. Her latest work includes an EP titled “After School” along with a brand-new music video with a brand-new Melanie.
