It was a breezy morning at the bus stop. We had a 3-day weekend from school because of Halloween. It's November now, and there's snow on the ground! "Kinda cold, right?" asked George Tenbusch. "Thank you, Sherlock" I responded sarcastically. The bus pulls up. "Sit by me!" A random kid shouts from the back. I sit next to her. "Not you, moron. I meant George!" She said, shoving me out of the seat.

That was rude. I sit by myself. My friend, Austin Abbe, moved over the summer, so I have no friends. I walked in the school. There, the principal is waiting, looks at me and says, "Hello, Tommy. Meet me in my office." His office was covered in motivational posters like "Bakers can't be choosers" and "Imagination is more important than knowledge".

"Yes?" I asked. "I noticed you helping other students last year and being nice to everyone. Your grades were quite impressive. I'm gonna need your help to keep an eye out for bullies, as the school is a no-bully zone, and report them to me. I'll give you extra credit for it." The principal responded.

I was in the hall, heading to class, when I saw the new kid getting picked on. "Give me back my lunch money, man!" the boy says. "What are you gonna do, cry?" asked Alexander O'Neal, the school bully. I took out my phone and recorded the event. I reported to Principal Gonzalez later. He looks at the video and said, "Well, that's my stepson. I'll talk to him later". The principal walks out and I noticed a door i didn't see last year.

I open the door, which reveals a staircase. I walk down the stairs and turn on the light, I see a tack board with many pictures of our old principal, who mysteriously disappeared last year, and "MUST BE GONE" written on the picture in red marker. That's when I saw a case file with Principal Gonzalez birth certificate.

Name: James Thomas McCormick Jr.

D.O.B.: 3/17/75

Parents: Lisa Townsend, James McCormick Sr.

His name sounded familiar. So, I Googled his name and saw he's wanted in 31 states for shoplifting, theft, identity theft and a much brutal crime. My principal is a fugitive! I picked up the school phone and dialed 9-1-1. "911, what's your emergency?" the dispatcher said. "I just found out my principal is James Thomas McCormick Jr. Wanted in 31 states?" I responded. "We've been looking for him for 3 years. What address are you at?" asked the dispatcher. "324 South Cheddar Street Plainview." "The cops are on their way".

The cops showed up and arrested Principal Gonzalez, er, I mean, James Thomas McCormick Jr. The school hired a new principal, my uncle Asper, and I became the most popular kid in school. I was on the news for taking down a wanted fugitive! I also got noticed by the girl on the bus this morning. Everything worked out for me. Except, I didn't get my extra credit. Oh, well.

Later, my friend, Austin, called me and told me he was moving back. The president came to Plainview to shake my hand and meet me "The nation thanks you, Miller." The president said, as he handed me a plaque that read, "Thomas "Tommy" Andrews Miller: Country Hero". I was so proud of myself for 3 reasons:

  1. Taking down a wanted criminal
  2. Meeting the president
  3. My friend moved back

In fact, Mom ungrounded me and gave me a new video game! My Dad was unresponsive about it. "You okay?" I asked. "James Thomas McCormick Jr. was my friend in grade school, I had no clue he would become a fugitive. He was my idol." he responded. "You idolized him?" I asked. "I used to" Dad responded. "Now, go pick up your room" Dad says. "I can't, it's too heavy" I chuckled. My friend came over for a sleepover. Everything was back to normal -- Except for popularity and a shiney plaque!
