Salons were an opportunity for people to come together and share ideas, opinions, stories, political standpoints, etc. In a way it was also a beacon for inspiration and entertainment. Social media can sometimes be the same. It was a place where you heard the latest news.

How their different: You don't have to go to meet at areas to share your ideas. They can be said anywhere on social media.
