The whole reason for the entire Revolutionary War was that the colonists had had enough with the British Taxing them. The colonists said they wanted represention in Parliament. The British needed money after the French and Indian War, or the 7 years' War. After the British realized they could not continue because of their defeat at Yorktown, and that they had no more money, they started Peace Talks with the US.
