Answer and Explanation:

The text shows how war veterans deserve the gratitude and consideration of their countrymen for all they have done in defense of the country, however, gratitude is not enough for the veterans to live well, since they do not receive government assistance when they return home and end up suffering from unemployment and low quality of life.

The text predictions changed my experience and focus on reading. This is because, I predicted that the text talked about how we have to respect veterans and although the text reinforces this idea, it extends it, showing that respect and gratitude go beyond feeling, but must be shown with actions too.

These predictions come from the title of the text, showing us how important it is to be grateful for those who defend us.
