Secondary sources can provide background information to help you understand primary sources. In this task, you’ll study a secondary source and summarize it to gain insight into one of our founding documents. Read this secondary source about the history of the Declaration of Independence. As you read, be sure to look up any words you don’t know in the dictionary. You may stop reading at the heading “The Engrossed Declaration.”

Now write one paragraph (100–150 words) that summarizes the information you just read about the Declaration of Independence.
