An atom of silicon has a mass number of 28 and an atomic number of 14. How many protons and how many neutrons are in this atom? Show your calculation.

Respuesta :

silicon has 14 protons and it should have at least 12 neutrons
The atomic number is the number of protons so silicon has 14 protons.

The mass number is the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons. This means that the number of neutrons is the mass number minus the atomic number. So it is 28 - 14 which is 14.
