The Great Depression struck not only the US, but almost every other place in the world, which made it even worse for Germans as they already were close to rock-bottom. Now the Great Depression hit, so they were really broke, which caused Hitler and the Nazi Party to rise, as to the Germans, Hitler was their only hope out of poverty and could make them have a strong economy again. So technically, yes, it's true.
