Because this water lasts for days, weeks, and sometime months. plus easier to get around on a boat.
Flooding helped ancient India because during times of drought, the plants that planted could get enough water. They may have had an irrigation system in which would have proved successful due to the flooding. They were probably able to conserve and store water for later in case of a drought. India was most likely a very dry place most of the time, so flooding would have proved to be helpful and useful.
