British started establishing their colonies in India and it's neighbor countries after battle of Plassey in 1757. After this battle "Dual governance" was introduced by Robert Clive of English East India Company in 1765 under which he divided the administration of Bengal into Diwani and nizamat which remained into force till 1772. Warren Hasting abolished this system which brought Bengal under the direct control of the British government.
