What is a parenthetical citation?

A parenthetical citation is an in-text citation used to summarize, paraphrase, or quote from another source.

The MLA parenthetical in-text citation style uses the author's last name and a page number; for example: (MacGregor 122) without any comma separating the last name and the page number.
