Gatsby was out warning the rich to get their boats off the lake because of a storm. When Gatsby was asked his name he said it was Gatz instead of Gatsby. He wanted to possibly disassociate himself from his poor family. Also, Gatsby assessed the success of his party by whether or not Daisy attended or enjoyed it. quote: "I knew that expected for the half-hour she'd been alone with Gatsby she wasn't having a good time."
