Stéphane Mallarmé, also known as Étienne Mallarmé, was a French poet and critic. He was a significant French symbolist poet, and his work anticipated and influenced several avant-garde artistic movements of the early 20th century, including Dadaism, Surrealism, Cubism, and Futurism.
Paris was the place of Stéphane Mallarmé's birth. Between October 6 or 9 of 1852 and March 1855, he boarded at the Pensionnat des Frères des écoles chrétiennes in Passy.
He was famous for his salons, and he occasionally hosted intellectual meetings at his home on the rue de Rome for talks of poetry, art, and philosophy. He was an English teacher by trade and lived much of his life in relative poverty.
