Throughout the story, the protagonist becomes more independent, mature, and able to express her opinion more efficiently.

Who is the protagonist of "Rules of the Game?"

  • Meimei, a Chinese-American girl is the protagonist.
  • She has a great talent and ability to play chess.

At the beginning of the story, Meimei doesn't know how to express her opinions and can't take control of her own life. Everything about her is determined by her mother and this makes her sad, unmotivated, and sometimes even rebellious.

However, throughout the book, she learns more about herself and how to get around the situation as she lives. She can express herself better, defend her wishes and behave in a more mature and determined way.
