Wilma is twice as old as Jamal, and Jamal is 3 years older than Tim. The sum of all their ages is 17.

Let j be Jamal's age. Write and solve an equation to find Jamal's age.

If x = Jamal's age , 2x = Wilma's age , x - 3 = Tim's age.
The sum of the ages is 17. 
Jamal's age is 5
Wilma's age is 10
Tim's age is 2
