It took a messenger 30 minutes to deliver a message from point A to point B. On the way back he reduced his speed by 1 mph and it took him 36 minutes to get back. Find the speed with which the messenger was going from point A to point B.

Respuesta :

V*t=S

V*30/60=S
(V-1)*36/60=S

simplify

V*1/2=S
(V-1)*3/5=S

(3/5)*V - 3/5 = S

plug in first equation

(3/5)*V -3/5=V*1/2
0.6*V - 0.6 = 0.5*V
0.6*V-0.5*V=0.6
0.1*V=0.6
V=0.6/0.1
V=6 mph

Answer:

6 mph

Explanation:

v=s/t

v= velocity, s= distance, t= time

s= v*t

You wil need to use the distance formula to write the equations and then, solve them:

s=v*30/60

s=1/2v ①

s= (v-1)*36/60

s=(v-1)*3/5 ②

1/2v=(v-1)*3/5

1/2v=3/5v-3/5

1/2v-3/5v=-3/5

-1/10v=-3/5

v=(-3/5)/(-1/10)

v=-30/-5

v = 6

The speed with which the messenger was going from point A to point B was 6 mph.
