After 1618 a system of land grants is the primary means of attracting new settlers of the Virginia company. On 1624 a US states, the Virginia, became a royal colony. Under the "head right" system in Virginia, all new arrivals who had paid their trans-Atlantic fares received fifty-acre land grants.
