Thomas Szasz He was a psychologist who made the relevant argument above. Essentially he boiled down a great deal of human abnormalities to environmental factors that would abate if the person was removed from said stimulus. He wasn't entirely on the right path, but the phenomena he was attempting to exam was more complicated than first observed.
