I believe Icarus was not failing as he fell,
but just coming to the end of his triumph.

Jack Gilbert, "Failing and Flying"
What different interpretation of the Icarus myth does Jack Gilbert offer?
A. That Icarus blamed his father, Daedalus, for the wings' failure
B. That Icarus was frightened when he realized he was going to die
C. That Icarus was triumphant in his flight even though he drowned
D. That Icarus was rightly punished by the gods for attempting to fly

Respuesta :

Based on the last line taken from Jack Gilbert's "Failing and Flying", Gilbert offers a different interpretation of the Icarus myth which isĀ C. That Icarus was triumphant in his flight even though he drowned. He interpreted Icarus' flight to be a triumph since Icarus had the courage to do the thing he wanted to which most of us don't have the courage for knowing that we might not be successful.
C. That Icarus was triumphant in his flight even though he drowned.
