There are actually 2 variations in this case.

> First case: the number of sides is an odd number

                The number of lines of symmetry is simply equal to number of sides

 

> Second case: the number of sides is an even number

                The number of lines of symmetry is equal to twice the number of sides

X sides because every regular polygon has the same amount of lines of symmetry as the amount of sides.
