The Magna Carta was the document that was used to set out the type of government that is used in the United States today. With the concept of representative government and the idea of trial by jury, it allowed the people to have a say in their own governance, instead of being forced to acquiesce to the whims of a landed aristocracy who may not have had the best interests of their subjects in mind.
