All amino acids found in protein have a basic structure, which differ only in the structure of the R-group or the side chain. The simplest and smallest amino acid is found in proteins is glycerin for which the R-group is a H (hydrogen) . In proteins the only L-isomer is found normally.

Amino acids is made of amino group, a carboxyl group, a hydrogen atom, and a side chain bonded to the central carbon atom. The side chain, and its physical and chemical properties is what makes each amino acid different from the other.
