Bone resorption inhibiting drug. This drug inhibits bone resorption by decreasing the enzyme that causes bone cell breakdown. This will help in the formation of bone and the deposition of calcium. Typically this drugs are called bisphosphonates and used in osteoporosis. Stomach pain, diarrhea and constipation can be noted as side effects of the drugs. Precautions must be made if the patient is allergic to the drug or if there are history of difficulty in swallowing, hypocalcemia and intestinal disorder.
Alendronate and ibandronate are drugs classified as bone reabsorption or resorption inhibitor drug classification. Bone resorption inhibitors drugs are drugs that inhibits mineralization or resorption of the bone by blocking the action of osteoclasts. They are used to treat postmenopausal and glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis and pagets disease of the bone.
