In line 14 of Trust by Susan Kinsolving, it is significant to the theme of the poem that the birds are at the feeder because this shows that they are-

The poem asks the reader to trust that there are so many brilliantly surviving animals in far off places that exist without ever coming into contact with humans or human things. There is a bit of fear at the end of though, as she sees the birds who depend on her feeder.
