The liberalism movement of the 1960s fought for rights to education and careers most important to middle-class women who wanted to secure their economic future as men were able. The movement also wanted access to birth control and legal abortions which in turn gave them control of their bodies and economic future. 

The movement missed many of the issues facing poor and minority women. Upper class women typically had more advantages and economic security not needed from a career and therefore had less interest in the movement.
